Meet Robin
The story behind Robin Shear
Who is Robin — and how do I get to know her?
Hey, I'm Robin Real joy. Real life. No pretending.
I’m a global joy speaker, joy coach & consultant, and the creator of Messy Joy™—which is exactly what it sounds like: real joy for real life, even when things are complicated, loud, or held together with duct tape and hope.
I speak to real people (leaders, teams, planners, and brave professionals everywhere) about how joy isn’t a “nice-to-have,” it’s a how-do-we-survive-and-thrive skill. My keynotes are story-rich, interactive, and packed with practical tools people can use immediately, because inspiration without application is just a really good pep talk.
Messy Joy™ was born when I realized joy had to work inside real life—not after it calmed down. I wrote the book while recovering from a head injury, PTSD, chronic pain, and more, which taught me that joy isn’t denial or toxic positivity. It’s resilience. It’s choice. It’s practice.
I’ve been honored as a PCMA Leading Class Speaker, named a Trending Speaker by ITA Group, and recognized as Member of the Year by the National Speakers Association (Michigan Chapter), which tells me this joy thing works in the real world, not just on paper.
As a joy coach and consultant, I work with capable, caring, often-tired humans and organizations who want to feel more connected, grounded, and resilient…without pretending life isn’t messy. Could we please have more fun? And get more stuff done? The answer to both is YES. It feels good to feel good…just wait and see!
And yes, family life matters deeply to me. As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and now even grandmother (oh, the joy in being Gma!), I live what I teach in the middle of relationships, responsibilities, laughter, sadness, and even chaos. That’s where Messy Joy™ continues to grow.
Bottom line?
I believe joy is possible—no matter what—and I’ll gladly help you find it, practice it, and nurture it when things get messy… because I know you won’t be able to keep it to yourself.
